Having always been a sporting nation, you wont find them hiding in their cottages in Wales.

They are most likely being found drving towards the net ready to score on their opponent. Heres a lowdown to how the Welsh are doing in three different sports.

  • Ice hockey -Not really a dominant sport in the uk, but more popular in Wales than in English. UK ice hockey does have the Elite league, and the Welsh represents are the Cardiff Devils. Put together in 1986, the Cardiff Devils proceeded to win 7 league titles during the 80s and 90s, but went bust in 2001. Same name, but a different team, the Cardiff Devils are currently fifth in the Elite league 30 points behind the leaders and old rivals, the Sheffield Steelers.
  • Football. The third oldest international football team havent really achieved much, having visited the world cup championships on once in 1958 and never having qualified for the European cup. Captained by Craig Bellemy, they are level on points with Russia in world cup qualifying with six points from four games. Currently ranked 65th in the FIFA world rankings. At club level in football both Cardiff and Swansea cities are having good seasons in the Coca-cola Championships. Cardiff city are currently 4th and trying to push their way into the premier league with 53 points, and Swansea city are right behind them in 9th trying to chase a playoff spot. Theres also from North Wales Wrexham, who were in the football league last year, currently in 6th place in the ‘Blue square premier’ division with two games in hand on the teams above, just outside a playoff spot.
  • Rugby Union. Being English, i wanted to skip over the six nations and Welsh rugby union team, but it seems thats what the Welsh do best? Sharing top posistion with Ireland after both teams have won all their games. Ranked fouth in the world in rubgy union, Wales have won the six nations tournament 24 times including last year, only once behind england.
